How do we get this started? I would like folks to put down their desires, wishes, and solutions and ideas of how to make them come true.
Grants are one way. I've been told that there is money out there and especially money for the arts.
I would love to hire a Marcia Salera or Sally Briggs to come and teach art every week to the K-5's at both schools.
We need someone to teach all kids how to key board. (Or someone to teach the teachers how to teach keyboarding. Maybe there is some fun software out there?)
I wonder if Andrea would be interested in teaching Spanish to the K-5's?
And of course I want drama, musical theatre, and theatre arts to be a given in the district.

I think we need to start from ground up.
ReplyDelete1) We need a mission statement formulated for our focus. Simple and straightforward.
2) Foundation: We need to build the foundation for the Parents Coalition (or PTA) for Brookhaven. We need to designate a Team Parent for each classroom and setup a monthly meeting schedule and agenda.
3) Teachers: We need to take our plan and deliver this to all teachers. They should connect us on their feedback and fine tune how the Parents will work with Teachers.
4) Blog/Website comm tool: We need a central tool that all Teachers will use for each classrom (managed by Team parent) to show to the public for all parents. This will give everyone central place to see what is going on for yours (and others classrooms). I know if my kid was going into the next grade, I'd like to review the blog mid-year and see what they are doing.
5) Faculty: We need to engage the faculty with what we have going on and get their approval as in, yeah you are stepping up.
6) Money: How much do we need? How does SEF work in on this.. This has lots of questions. But before we can get to #6, we need to build #1-#5.
Let's work on the easy solutions first and foundation. Then let's tackle the $$$.. We will absolutely need to work with faculty and determine all of the legal stuff on what we can do there, however a small team can focus on that.
